Ipswich Town have confirmed that central defender Elkan Baggott has left the club to join Millwall on a permanent basis. The 23‑year‑old, who progressed through the Academy at Portman Road, moves on after eight years with the Blues and nine senior appearances for the first team.
Baggott’s time at Ipswich included a memorable Carabao Cup goal against Fulham in 2024, while he also gained valuable experience through loan spells at King’s Lynn, Gillingham, Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers and Blackpool. His development at club level was mirrored on the international stage, where he has already earned 28 senior caps for Indonesia.
Millwall’s View on the Signing
Millwall’s Director of Football Steve Gallen expressed delight at securing Baggott’s signature, highlighting the club’s long‑term interest in the defender.
Gallen said: “I’m delighted to bring Elkan to the club. He’s a player we’ve been tracking for some time now, and we’ve followed his development closely, both at Ipswich Town and through his loan spells in the EFL, where he has picked up valuable experience against senior, physical opposition.”
He believes Baggott fits the profile Millwall look for in their defensive unit: “He’s a good age, has a real appetite to improve and fits the profile we look for defensively. Elkan comes in to bolster our defensive options in an area that has been a real strength for us in recent seasons and we’re confident he’ll add real competition and quality to that group.”
Gallen added: “We’re pleased he’s chosen to join and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress here.”
A New Chapter for a Homegrown Blue
Baggott leaves Ipswich as a highly respected Academy graduate who embraced every challenge placed in front of him, from EFL loan spells to international football. His move to Millwall offers the chance for regular senior minutes and a stable platform to continue his development in a competitive Championship environment.
Ipswich supporters will remember his commitment, professionalism and pathway from youth prospect to full international, and he departs with the club’s appreciation and best wishes.
