AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim is ‘pushing’ to sign Manchester United full-back Noussair Mazraoui.
The Rossoneri recently appointed the Portuguese tactician as their new manager, and they have already made a high-profile signing in Goncalo Ramos this summer.
The Serie A club are poised to back Amorim with more big-name arrivals, and Quotidiano Sport claim that the 41-year-old is ‘pushing’ for a reunion with Mazraoui.
The Italian outlet add that a deal could be closed for around £13 million, with United already eyeing Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams as a potential replacement.
United unlikely to part ways with Mazraoui
The Red Devils currently have Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw as the first-choice right-back and left-back, respectively.
Mazraoui is primarily a right-back by trade, but he was exceptional for Morocco from the opposite end at the World Cup.
The 28-year-old completed 90 percent of his passes at the tournament, while winning 73 percent of his ground duels.
Mazraoui also registered two tackles, three recoveries and six clearances per appearance for the Atlas Lions.
The £17 million signing is someone who likes to engage opponents and should play a big role next term.
Shaw stayed unscathed last season, having had to play just one game per week with fewer training sessions.
However, the extra workload in matches and training intensity could test his worrying injury record next season.
With Patrick Dorgu being more adept as a winger, Mazraoui should be United’s deputy for both full-back roles.
Forest’s Williams can do the same, but we believe he would be a downgrade on Mazraoui for the position.
If United were to sign Williams, he should add depth in the full-back roles rather than act as Mazraoui’s replacement.
