Leeds United hand Beeston-raised player new one-year deal after 'productive' non-league stints

Leeds United have handed a new one-year contract to an academy player after ‘productive’ loan spells in the men’s game.

Darryl Ombang was raised in Leeds but did not join his city’s club until 2021 when he moved from Bradford City as a 16-year-old and signed a two-year scholarship with Leeds United. The goalkeeper is now 21 and has penned another deal at Elland Road, this time a one-year contract. Leeds’ plan is for Ombang to continue his development in the Under-21s, but he has already had a taste of senior football.

Ombang has been sent out on loan for stints with Ossett United, Hartlepool Darlington and FC United of Manchester. Last season he played games in the National League North, Northern Premier League, National League Cup, Premier League International Cup and Premier League 2.

A club statement read: “Leeds United are pleased to announce Academy goalkeeper Darryl Ombang has signed a new contract with the club. The shot stopper has agreed a one-year deal with the Whites, which will see him continue his development within the Under-21s’ ranks. The 21-year-old made 10 appearances for Scott Gardner’s side in the previous campaign, notably gaining valuable experience in EFL Trophy ties with Port Vale and Fleetwood Town. Ombang also enjoyed two productive loan spells, featuring four times for Darlington in the National League North before helping guide FC United of Manchester to the Northern Premier League play-offs. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Darryl and we are excited to see his continued development within the Academy.”
