Man Utd targeting £30m Dutch star to replace Marcus

Manchester United plan to target West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville should Marcus Rashford leave the club during the transfer window.

The Red Devils loaned out Rashford to Barcelona last summer. He had a productive season for the Blaugrana with 14 goals and 14 assists from 49 games.

Despite this, the La Liga champions did not trigger a £26 million buy clause, and Rashford is now expected to report for United training next month.

Interested clubs can still sign him by triggering a £40m release clause, but as things stand, the 28-year-old could start the new league campaign with United.

This has not ended speculation regarding his future, and The Guardian now claim that United plan to target Summerville if Rashford heads for the exit door.

Summerville is poised to leave West Ham after their Premier League relegation, and it is reported that he could be sold for the right price of around £30m.

Summerville won’t represent an upgrade on Rashford

Cunha had a solid debut campaign for the Red Devils with 14 goal contributions, mostly from the left wing. He got some support from Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu is primarily a left-back who can also operate as a winger, and manager Michael Carrick may want a specialist to compete with Cunha next season.

With United back in the Champions League, they need two quality options for every position to handle the extra workload and potential injury setbacks.

Keeping Rashford is a no-brainer decision after his stellar campaign at Barcelona, but United’s hierarchy appear keen to remove his hefty salary from their wage bill with a summer sale.

Summerville has been touted to replace him, but the Dutchman does not possess the same quality.

The 24-year-old made just nine goal contributions in the league last term, but stood out for the Netherlands at the World Cup with two goals and two assists.

That alone does not appear sufficient to prove his credentials. He converted only nine percent of his league shots into goals and missed seven big chances last term.

United should aim higher than Summerville if they plan to replace Rashford.
