Newcastle United sources have dismissed talk that Dan Burn could be sold to Aston Villa - after Unai Emery's side were linked with the 6ft 7in England star.

But the star's future could be sealed soon as Newcastle consider giving him a dream offer to keep him at the club until the end of his career.

After losing experienced stars such as Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali in the last six months, the Magpies could ill afford to lose the 34-year-old who will kick off the new season on the back of a fantastic World Cup campaign with the Three Lions.

Burn is understood to have just one year left on his current deal, but Newcastle may revisit his contract situation, not least after he showed how important he was at the World Cup with England this summer.

The Magpies also have an option to extend Burn's current deal to 2028, which would almost certainly mean the Carabao Cup hero would finish his career at the top with Newcastle.

It would be a huge boost to the player who admitted he was left 'haunted' by England's heartbreaking World Cup exit at the hands of Argentina on Wednesday night, which brought an end to an astonishing fairy tale story for the veteran defender.

When Burn got called up by England for the World Cup, Eddie Howe said: "No one more deserving . . . just such an inspiring guy but also a very talented player.

"It's a great story, one of the great football stories, one of the great comebacks. Someone who had to do it the real hard way coming through the leagues."

Burn's sensational story saw him rise from Blyth Spartans' youth ranks to Darlington and through the leagues with Yeovil, Birmingham and Fulham, before on to Brighton in the Premier League and then his elevation to the World Cup.

Burn signed for just £13million from Brighton when Newcastle were bottom of the Premier League in 2022 and has been one of the best pound for pound signings in modern club history, scoring a wonderful header against Liverpool at Wembley.
