Newcastle United has been linked with a move for Alexander Sorloth for several seasons, and John Arne Riise believes signing the striker would be a smart decision for the English club.
Sorloth has established himself as a reliable goalscorer in European football and has continued to deliver impressive performances whenever he plays for Atletico Madrid.
Newcastle consider Sorloth option
The striker was also an important player for Norway during their run to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, and he could be available for a transfer during the current window.
Several clubs have shown interest in his signature, including Juventus, but Sorloth could make a return to the Premier League, where he previously played for Crystal Palace. His first spell in England was difficult, as he struggled to produce his best form during that period.
Newcastle is expected to search for at least one new striker this summer, and Sorloth could become one of their main targets in the coming weeks. His experience, physical presence and goal-scoring ability make him an attractive option for the club.
Riise believes the move would benefit both parties and feels that Sorloth has the qualities required to succeed at Newcastle. The former Liverpool player has praised the striker’s attributes and believes English football would suit him.
Riise backs potential move
According to Sporten, Riise believes Sorloth would be an ideal addition for Newcastle.
He said: “Sørloth would have been a perfect signing for Newcastle.
“ He is powerful, a goal scorer and fast. English football suits him very well.”
Sorloth’s previous Premier League experience means he already understands the demands of English football, although he would be hoping to produce a much stronger impact if he returns.
Newcastle’s interest could become more serious as the transfer window progresses, especially if they decide that adding another proven striker is necessary. With competition from clubs across Europe, the Magpies would need to move quickly if they want to secure his signature.
