The defender’s two-year stay at Leeds United is over.
Leeds United will cover the book value of a signing that did not work out when he joins his new club today.
Schmidt arrived at Elland Road in 2024 in a £2.5m deal with FC St Gallen. He failed to convince Daniel Farke of his ability to play full-back in the Championship title-winning side and instead was predominantly used as an attacker in his rare cameos off the bench.
Last season Schmidt went out on loan to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen but it failed to yield a permanent move.
Young Boys have won the race to bring Schmidt back to his native Switzerland this summer with a deal to be announced imminently. The transfer fee is sufficient to ensure Leeds will not book a loss on the player.
