Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed by AC Milan after failing to secure qualification for the Champions League at the end of last season, but he has quickly returned to management after becoming the new head coach of Napoli.
The Naples club believes it has appointed one of Italy’s leading managers, although Allegri’s second spell at Juventus did not produce the success many expected. During that period, the Bianconeri struggled for consistency before winning the Italian Cup, after which he left the club.
Allegri reflects on his Juventus spell

Allegri’s first period at the Allianz Stadium was highly successful. He guided Juventus to five consecutive league titles and led the club to the Champions League final on two occasions, establishing himself as one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.
There is little doubt about Allegri’s achievements during his first spell in Turin, but his return to Juventus failed to reach the same standards. Before rejoining the Bianconeri, he had attracted interest from Real Madrid and other clubs, and Juventus was delighted to bring him back.
Looking back, however, his second spell did not deliver the expected results, and many believe it fell short of the club’s ambitions. Despite that, Allegri continues to be highly regarded within Italian football and has secured another opportunity in Serie A.
Allegri rejects criticism

He said: “Did his experiences at Juve and Milan end badly? No to Juve I finished by winning the Italian Cup, if I’m not mistaken because I lost my memory a bit. At Milan, unfortunately, we were in the top four from the second to the 37th, but unfortunately the last one was the one that mattered. For the first time I left Champions League places, I won’t deny it but I took it with me.”
Allegri will now look to prove himself once again at Napoli, where the club believes his experience and record can help deliver success in the seasons ahead.
