Aston Villa have confirmed that defender Andres Garcia has completed a season-long loan move to Getafe.
The 23-year-old joined us from Levante in January 2025, but through a combination of injury problems and competition for places, he has been limited to 18 appearances for us since.
In turn, it appears as though Unai Emery wants to make changes at right-back this summer, with Garcia now set for a temporary spell back in Spain.

As per the club’s statement, the Spaniard has joined Getafe on a season-long loan deal, and it’s hoped that he’s able to stay fit and get regular football in order to develop and improve his game.
Whether that results in a return to Villa next season, or a permanent move elsewhere if he impresses, remains to be seen, but ultimately it’s in everyone’s best interests if this proves to be a productive loan spell.
From Villa’s perspective, it’s hoped that we’re able to recoup what we spent on him if he does move on permanently next summer, or perhaps even make a profit, but for the upcoming season it gives Emery a chance to reshuffle his pack and bring in a new right-back.
It’s critical that we do so as we need genuine competition and the ability to rotate in order to take the strain off Matty Cash as we look to compete across multiple competitions, and so the expectation is that we’ll move for a new signing albeit speculation over a move for Emerson Royal has seemingly dissipated.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether or not an impressive pre-season for Triston Rowe could bring him into Emery’s thinking after he impressed on loan at Annecy last season, but it seems more likely that we’ll go for a more experienced option and time will tell who that will be.
Following the exit of Youri Tielemans and the injury sustained by Amadou Onana, our midfield is no doubt the priority for now with speculation linking us with completing moves for Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes this week, and so perhaps once those moves are secured, we’ll switch our focus to the right-back spot and ensure that we have enough in that department for the new season.
