Aston Villa and Newcastle United are among the admirers for Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys this summer. A deal for the 21-year-old is ‘very much a possibility’ in the coming weeks.
Voetbal Primeur report on the defender today, relaying information from Sudpresse. They report that Aston Villa and Newcastle are among his admirers.
Aston Villa and Newcastle interest
The outlet explain that Joaquin Seys has seen his market value rise in recent months. The 21-year-old left-back has established himself as a key player at Club Brugge, impressing in the Champions League. He’s also been a part of the World Cup with Belgium.
Indeed, his performances there have ramped up interest. the youngster came on as a substitute against Spain and ‘held his own’ against Lamine Yamal. In doing so, he ‘confirmed the impressive progress’ he’s enjoyed in the last few seasons. And that’s made a transfer this summer enter the ‘very much a possibility’.
Interest from abroad continues to grow. According to Sudpresse, FC Porto and Benfica have been tracking him for some time. Both are willing to make an offer of around €20m. PSG also kept an eye on him before targeting Lucas Digne.
Aston Villa need a left-back
In the Premier League, Aston Villa and Newcastle have also been linked with a potential move. Any interested parties would need to convince Club Brugge. The Belgian side don’t feel obliged to sell Joaquin Seys this summer.
If they were to sell, they would want at least €35m. Only when a club puts that figure on the table, will a move be up for discussion. They want to ensure that, if he departs, they secure ‘a major transfer coup’ once again.
Whether Aston Villa or Newcastle are ready to move, remains to be seen. The former will need another left-back this summer with Digne set to head back to France sooner rather than later.
