Leeds United have confirmed the departure of Isaac Schmidt to BSC Young Boys.
The 26-year-old moves to the Swiss club for an undisclosed fee and brings and end to end an Elland Road career that never really experienced lift off. He has signed a four-year deal with the Bernese club.
Schmidt joined Leeds from St Gallen in August 2024 and made 14 appearances in the club’s Championship winning season.
However, last term he was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen where he played 19 times. They opted not to take up the option to sign him permanently.
This transfer represents a return to his homeland for a player who came through at his home-town club Lausanne-Sport.
United paid around £3million for him and handed him a four-year contract ahead of the 2024/25 season but he didn’t start any league games as Jayden Bogle was a virtual ever-present. The 25-year-old had a very creditable season in the Premier League too.
Schmidt told the YB website: "The goal has to be to achieve great things. I know it hasn't been easy the last two years.
“But I'm convinced the team has great quality and will show its best side in the new season. I want to contribute the experience I've gained in England and Germany and also be a support for the younger players in the squad."
YB have finished sixth and third in the last couple of seasons, having won the Swiss title six times in the previous seven campaigns.
Leeds have now seen Pascal Struijk, Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow leave Elland Road this summer.
