Following six different loan spells, including Hartlepool United and Exeter City, White has departed Newcastle permanently, 10 years after joining their academy from hometown club Carlisle United.

“White, who joined the club’s Academy in 2016, spent last season on loan in League One with spells at Leyton Orient and Bradford City.
“The 23-year-old previously spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Crewe, scoring three goals in 20 appearances, before returning to Newcastle and making his first-team debut for the Magpies in a 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth later that season.
“While progressing through the youth ranks at United, he also enjoyed loan spells with Hartlepool United, Exeter City and MK Dons.
“He will now join Lee Bell’s side, who finished 11th in League Two last season.
“Everybody at Newcastle United would like to wish Joe well for the future.”
Newcastle United’s fifth summer exit confirmed
Newcastle’s first-team squad have reported back for pre-season training this week. With several senior players still missing due to their World Cup involvement, Eddie Howe has called up the likes of Leo Shahar, Alex Murphy and Sean Neave from the under-21s.
White is usually included in the Magpies’ pre-season schedule but was left out this time around in preparation for a move to Crewe.
White becomes the fifth player to leave Newcastle this summer after Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali joined Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, on a permanent basis, while Antonio Cordero and Harrison Ashby have joined Cadiz and Luton Town, respectively, on loan.
