Villa have acted quickly to replace Youri Tielemans after the Belgium international joined Manchester United.
The Villans bagged £35m for Tielemans before immediately reinvesting that exact figure on Gomes.
talkSPORT understands Villa are also pushing to sign midfielder Joao Palhinha on loan this summer.
The Portugal midfielder spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Tottenham from Bayern Munich.

Gomes gets his move
Gomes was set to sign for Atletico Madrid in a deal worth closer to £39m but the LaLiga giants pulled the plug in recent days.
It is understood Atletico were unhappy with Gomes' agent Jorge Mendes, who broke an agreement they had with Bernardo Silva before the midfielder's surprise move to Real Madrid.
Gomes made 130 appearances for Wolves since joining from Flamengo in 2023, with 114 of those coming in the Premier League.
Wolves were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, finishing rock bottom of the table, although Gomes was a rare shining light throughout the season.
Morgan Rogers latest
Villa star Morgan Rogers remains a transfer target for Premier League champions Arsenal this summer.
The 23-year-old is expected to leave Villa Park with the Europa League winners looking for at least £80m.

talkSPORT understands a bidding war could drive that price up to £100m, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain also interested.
England star Rogers has stressed that his future will be put on hold until after the World Cup.
The Three Lions' campaign will end on Saturday in the third-place play-off against France following their semi-final defeat to Argentina.
Some reports have suggested Villa want £130m for Rogers, which would be a British transfer record, and those rumours were put to the player in North America.
”I'm not sure that I'm worth all of that!" Rogers responded earlier this month.
"Of course it's nice to hear that, but I don't let outside noise dictate me.
"I'm just going to keep focused and keep being the person that got me here and trying to improve. I don't really listen to stuff like that."
