Leeds United transfer target returns to club after extended break ahead of new season

An update on a Leeds United transfer target has been provided.

Leeds United summer transfer target Shea Charles has made a Southampton return amid ongoing Whites interest.

Leeds are hoping to sign Southampton’s 22-year-old Northern Ireland international midfielder Charles ahead of the club’s second season back in the Premier League and the Whites continue to play the waiting game in the bid for his signature.

Leeds have so far seen their advances rejected by Southampton who are gearing up towards a second season back in the Championship having been expelled from the play-offs following the Spygate saga.

The new Championship season begins over the weekend of Saturday, August 15 although the Saints will begin competitive football the previous weekend with a first round Carabao Cup tie at Colchester United on Saturday, August 8.

Southampton returned to pre-season training last week and Charles has now joined back up with his teammates following an extended summer break.

The midfielder was pictured in training in a series of photos posted by Southampton FC on social media and Daily Echo reporter Alfie House confirmed he had now returned.

Charles was given extra time off following Northern Ireland’s two friendlies in June against Guinea and France.
