**Dan Burn ended up being Newcastle United's only representative for England at the World Cup despite having three Lions called up when Thomas Tuchel announced his squad.**
Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon joined Dan Burn in the World Cup squad as Lewis Hall was cruelly left out. However, before the competition got underway, Gordon was sold to Barcelona, and Tino Livramento picked up an injury and had to withdraw from the squad.
We didn't see Burn in any of the group games, but he came off the bench in the tie against Mexico and stole the show. The 6'7" colossus was like a wall that Mexico couldn't get past. We're surprised Donald Trump wasn't on the blower to Burn asking for tips.
The Blyth-born defender made a couple more appearances from the bench for England, [including a 20-minute spell in the semi-final](https://nufcblog.co.uk/dan-burn-cant-prevent-england-collapse-as-world-cup-hopes-go-up-in-smoke-36595), which even saw him thrown up front to give the wingers something to aim for as they desperately tried to salvage the tie in the dying minutes.
Dan Burn could be given a contract extension
--------------------------------------------
According to [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dan-burns-newcastle-contract-clause-34294729), Burn will be rewarded for his international efforts by Newcastle United with a contract extension.
Burn only has 12 months remaining on his current deal, but there's reportedly a clause in the contract that allows Newcastle to extend it to 2028, which would likely take the big man towards the end of his career.
Dan Burn has been working towards his coaching badges, so there's even a good chance that once he hangs up his boots, whether that be in 2028 at Newcastle or beyond, he may be back in a coaching role at some point.
Dan Burn may have to be happy with a reduced role
-------------------------------------------------
Newcastle has lost a few of its more influential players this summer, with Kieran Trippier, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon having already left, and there are still question marks over Bruno GuimarĂ£es, although we would be surprised if he left.
Dan Burn sticking around is more important for the dressing room than it is for on the pitch, although the 34-year-old showed for England that he's still got plenty to offer on the green stuff too.
Burn may have to accept a reduced role next season as Eddie Howe will look to play his first-choice back four of Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw and Tino Livramento as often as possible, but having the big man to be able to call upon will still be a huge advantage.
