The new boss of key Leeds United rivals has issued a warning ahead of an early Whites clash.
New Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner has declared a strong signal of Reds intent but with a note of caution ahead of the Leeds United season opener.
Glasner steered Crystal Palace to Europa Conference League glory in May but the Austrian manager had earlier announced in January that he would be leaving the club in the summer.
Upon Forest parting ways with boss Vitor Pereira, Glasner was appointed new head coach at the City Ground earlier this month and his side host Leeds in the first game of the new Premier League season on Saturday, August 22.
Forest went through four different managers last season under owner Evangelos Marinakis as the club faced a big battle to avoid relegation which eventually ended with the Reds finishing fifth-bottom, five points clear of the drop zone but three points behind big rivals Leeds.
“More ambitious than I am, which is quite difficult”
Glasner, though, upon facing the press for the first time as Forest boss on Thursday, has signalled an early warning about his club’s ambition ahead of the new season and Leeds opener, despite refusing to entertain any talk of silverware.
Opening up on owner Marinakis bringing him to the club as per Round Table, Glasner said: “When we had talks, I found one of the few people more ambitious than I am, which is quite difficult. So I think we challenge each other with ambition.
"Every Premier League club is ambitious, every manager and player is ambitious. That doesn't mean you will have success.
"So it doesn't make sense after two days to talk about silverware. We need to build consistency. With the right ingredients in every area, hopefully we have a great meal and will be successful.”
Glasner added: ”It takes three to six months when you ask a team to do something differently. When I signed for Palace I said, and I will repeat myself, I am not a magician.
"There is no button I can press so we can win the Premier League. It is a lot of hard work from everyone, supporting each other, this is the foundation of success."
