Newcastle in discussions over Carl Rushworth and James Trafford - Report

Newcastle United are stepping up their search for a new No. 1 amid rumours that Nick Pope is heading for the St James' Park exit.

Nick Pope has lost the confidence of a lot of Newcastle fans, and it feels as though even Eddie Howe's patience is running out.

The Magpies have already signed one young goalkeeper this summer, bringing in Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims, but the 20-year-old has already been told he will be second-choice next season.

Newcastle are looking for a new first-choice; however, with James Trafford still very high on the wish list.

Newcastle are in talks over James Trafford and Carl Rushworth

Another possible target for Newcastle is Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who spent last season on loan at Coventry City, who gained promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

The Daily Mail claims that talks are underway for both Trafford and Rushworth as the Magpies keep their options open in their search for a new keeper.

Coventry have already had two bids of over £20 million rejected by Brighton for Rushworth, so he could be expected to set Newcastle back at least £30 million, while Trafford is valued at closer to £40 million.

Newcastle have plenty of options

Newcastle were also thought to be keen on Brighton's No. 1, Bart Verbruggen, as well as Robin Risser from Ligue 1 side Lens.

Ross Wilson has plenty of options, but whether he can get any of them over the line remains to be seen. Identifying targets hasn't been the issue for Newcastle, but convincing players to come has proved tricky.

Zion Suzuki is another option Newcastle are looking at, so surely out of five potential signings here, we can get one of them done.
