Joao Gomes playing for Wolves
Joao Gomes playing for Wolves
It was all doom and gloom at Villa Park this week when the shock news of Youri Tielemans' departure emerged.
The Belgium international has now completed a move to Manchester United for just £35million.
Villa haven't wasted any time in bolstering their midfield as Johan Manzambi looks set to come in from Freiburg, too.
Unai Emery and Co. aren't done there as Gomes looks set to come in from Wolves.
A move has come out of nowhere and looks set to go through imminently, but what can the Villa Park faithful expect?
It looks set to be a summer of change in claret and blue as plenty of twists are in the pipeline.
With Tielemans going and two younger options coming in, that has sparked the moves for Manzambi and Gomes.
The latter is set to be welcomed at Bodymoor Heath and former Villa midfielder Lansbury is certainly impressed by the deal.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Lansbury said: "I think he's a great signing. He's shown a lot of potential and positivity in the Premier League already.
"The way Villa play, he'll only add to their strengths. It's a good addition to the squad going back into the Champions League.
"His place in the squad will depend on what Unai thinks. He could come in as cover, but Villa have got squad depth of players who can play in different positions.
"He could be a straight replacement for Tielemans, but adding him is just a big positive for the club."
It is clear to see what the ex-B6 ace thinks and that should only be music to the ears of everyone at Villa Park.
How much are Aston Villa paying for Gomes?
Thursday had looked likely to be the day where not much happened aside from Manzambi's medical, as covered by Villa News.
Instead, the Villans look set to complete a move for the Brazilian after he was relegated with Wolves.
John Townley reported on X that the deal will be worth around £35million and he is now prepared for a medical.
The 25-year-old has now said goodbye to his Wolves teammates and is edging closer to joining the Villans.
His fee marks exactly what Man United paid for Tielemans, but is yet to be seen if he will be a direct alternative or not.
It is clear that Lansbury is excited to see what he can do in claret and blue.
