Each player on that list could well have a blossoming career ahead of them. However, it’s clear what the club think about Howard.

Every other contract was one or two years, but Howard has been tied down for three. It’s a very strong hint that the centre-back is incredibly highly rated at Thorp Arch.

“I signed when I was 10, in the U11s, so I have been here a while now. My dad and family have been a big help on this road to get to this place. And obviously as well, all the coaches that have taught me what they know have been massive. Hopefully I can make them all proud.

“I just play with my heart on my sleeve and I will give it everything – passion, leadership to hopefully get on that pitch.”

Leeds have to make it our priority to have Howard progressing well. Whether it’s an EFL loan for the England youth international, or more development close to Leeds’ senior group, this year could be vital for him.
