La Liga outfit Getafe have on Thursday announced the signing of out-of-favour Aston Villa defender Andrés García. This brings to a close the Azulones’ summer-long search for a new right-back for José Bordalás’ squad.
Getafe were forced to bid farewell to the club’s first-choice right-back from last season back in June. After Juan Iglesias made the call not to renew his expiring contract terms, the Spaniard put pen to paper on terms with La Liga rivals Sevilla.
A whole host of full-back profiles from across the continent, in turn, were taken into consideration as potential signings by the brass at the Estadio Coliseum.
In the end, though, it was the name of the aforementioned Andrés García which was underlined in red.
Fresh off a season on the bench at Villa Park, 23-year-old García was made available for loan for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
Boasting prior experience of Spanish football with Levante, Getafe therefore pushed hard to make a deal for the defender a reality.
And as alluded to above, on Thursday, such efforts have officially borne fruit. As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Azulones:
‘Getafe CF and Aston Villa FC have reached an agreement for the loan of Andrés García until the end of the current season. The 23-year-old Spanish right-back joins the Azulones to bolster their defence.’
