Leeds United are searching across Europe for a new goalkeeper. Italian reports claim that man could be Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio.
Fans are rightly clamouring for a third signing to be confirmed sooner rather than later at Elland Road. After Tarik Muharemovic’s pending arrival, it’s got to be a goalkeeper that’s targeted next.
Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier are gone. Lucas Perri is supposedly ready to move to Torino on loan. So, replacing our number one and two in goal is a must.
Leeds United ‘interested’ in Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio
A report from Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport this week claims that Leeds are lining the pockets of Juventus quite nicely. Of course, Muharemovic’s arrival from Sassuolo entitles the Old Lady to 50% of the proceeds, landing them a cool £17million.
However, it’s also claimed that United’s search for a goalkeeper has led us to Juventus ‘keeper Michele Di Gregorio.
The 28-year-old could end up leaving Turin this summer as Juventus plan to part ways with at least one goalkeeper themselves.
However, it’s also noted that the Italian would prefer to stay and fight for his place in the starting lineup. Perhaps, that hands Leeds an early ‘blow’ if we do want to sign him.
Leeds United should avoid Michele Di Gregorio at all costs
Prior to his move to Juventus, Di Gregorio looked a monstrous presence between the sticks at the bottom end of the Serie A.
Now, he looks a shell of that player and there’s no way that Leeds should be even entertaining a move. And, given the inconsistency of reports from major Italian outlets, I do find it hard to believe that we’d actually want him.
With Darlow leaving, Leeds have lost a safe pair of hands. And, we need to react in a timely manner with someone who we can truly hang our hats on long-term.
Di Gregorio’s woeful time at Juventus points to him being a waste of time for someone in our position. He’s not been convincing in the Serie A for some time, and the reaction of his fanbase to this ‘news’ tells you everything.
Given Leeds have built a centre-back trio all standing at 6ft4in, a goalkeeper that is under 6ft2in doesn’t add up.
