Tarik Muharemovic is set to complete a move from Sassuolo to Leeds United in a transfer that will reportedly earn Juventus around 20m euros through a sell-on clause. Although there had been speculation that the Bianconeri could bring the defender back to Turin, they have instead chosen to benefit financially from the deal.
Muharemovic left Juventus’ youth system to join Sassuolo in the summer of 2024 and enjoyed two impressive seasons with the club. His performances attracted significant interest, leading Leeds United to agree a reported 40m euro deal for the defender.
Juventus opt against a buy-back clause
Juventus included both buy-back and sell-on clauses when Muharemovic joined Sassuolo, and several reports suggested they were considering activating the buy-back option this summer. The club had reportedly been looking to strengthen their defence, while also avoiding the possibility of Inter Milan securing the player’s signature.
However, Juventus have allowed Muharemovic to complete his move to Leeds United rather than bringing him back to the Allianz Stadium. According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Bianconeri never intended to activate the buy-back clause despite the speculation surrounding the defender’s future.
The report states that Juventus believed Sassuolo had placed too high a valuation on Muharemovic. Instead of matching that valuation, the club decided it would be more beneficial to receive the proceeds from the sell-on clause included in the original agreement.
Financial boost for the Bianconeri
The transfer will reportedly provide Juventus with around 20m euros, giving the club additional funds to strengthen other areas of the squad during the current transfer window. The financial return is viewed as a positive outcome despite the defender’s impressive development since leaving Turin.
Juventus are expected to reinvest the money as they continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season. While Muharemovic will now begin the next chapter of his career with Leeds United, the Bianconeri have secured a significant financial benefit from a player who progressed through their youth system before establishing himself at Sassuolo.
