Michael Carrick has a new winger at his disposal, as 18-year-old Tynan Thompson is expected to immediately join the seniors.
While the news has been in the air for the past few days, the confirmation has arrived on Monday: The Red Devils have poached the teenager from Tottenham Hotspur.
Interestingly, the London native appears set for a baptism of fire upon his arrival at Carrington.
Tynan Thompson joins Carrick’s first team after signing Man Utd contract
According to Man Utd journalist Sully, Thompson will be allowed a few days to adjust to his new surroundings before joining Carrick’s camp.
The teenager is thus expected to take part in the first team’s upcoming summer friendlies.
“Tynan Thompson will be involved in preseason games with MUFC’s first team & once he settles in, he may be used as a LW option in the coming season,” posted the Carrington insider on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“He’s easily top 3 talents at THFC & one of the best English attacking prospects. MUFC beat other suitors with a strong proposal.”

This certainly doesn’t mean that Thompson will become a fully-fledged member of the senior squad, as he could still spend some time with Man Utd’s U21 squad this season.
Nevertheless, with the club playing twice per week, there should be opportunities for rising prospects likeShea Lacey, Tyler and Jack Fletcher, and Jim Thwaites; at least if they aren’t loaned out.
Therefore, if Thompson makes the most out of his summer opportunities, United fans might start getting used to spotting his name on the matchday list.
Man Utd’s left-wing plans shrouded in mystery
Thompson’s reputation as a top-notch talent preceded him to Carrington, but the lack of options on the left wing could also boost his chances of earning a swift promotion.
Last season, Matheus Cunha was United’s main option on the left side, although many believe he’s a more natural fit in the centre.
Patrick Dorgu is originally a left-back, but under Carrick, he put on impressive displays in a more advanced role.
Finally, Marcus Rashford is increasingly likely to stay at Man Utd beyond the summer amidst the lack of compelling offers.
The 28-year-old’s stay could close the door on the arrival of a new left winger, so the track leading to Crysencio Summerville has recently stalled.
Ideally, Man Utd should sign a prominent new left-winger who can elevate the quality of the team, but Rashford lingering for a year or two might not be a terrible scenario (except for the wage bill), as it could allow United to slowly groom Thompson into the role before taking the baton.
