Manchester United have confirmed the signing of ‘exciting’ winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.
Thompson joins United in a deal worth up to £8 million, plus add-ons dependent on his first-team achievements. Spurs have also inserted a 15 percent sell-on clause.
Tottenham have spent heavily this summer and are keen to maximise player sales to balance their books, forcing them to sell Thompson.
The England youth international joined Tottenham at the U12 level and progressed through their academy ranks to feature regularly for the U18s and U21s.
Primarily a left winger, Thompson can also operate on the right flank and in central midfield, highlighting his versatility.
Thompson enjoyed his breakthrough season with Spurs U18s in 2024/25, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 23 league games.
The 18-year-old was then promoted to the U21s last term, although he also featured for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
He chipped in with three goals and four assists in 16 league games, while also scoring seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League matches.
As a reward for his brilliant form, he was named in Tottenham’s Champions League matchday squads against Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, although he did not make his senior debut.
The young attacker will now hope to continue his development at United and eventually break into the first team.
The Red Devils have reportedly promised Thompson a clear pathway to the first team and have handed him a lucrative contract.
He is set to feature in United’s first pre-season games, although he is not expected to be involved in Friday’s fixture against Norwegian side Rosenborg BK.
The London-born attacker is then expected to play regularly for United’s U21s rather than the senior side next term.
