The goalkeeping department at Leeds United is once again a major talking point during the summer transfer window.
Following Karl Darlow’s departure to Manchester United, the Whites need a replacement.
They have been linked with a host of names to replace the Welshman. This includes Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and Manchester City’s James Trafford.
However, whilst these are names that Leeds will surely have an interest in, I’m not so sure whether the Whites would be interested in a ‘keeper Juventus look keen to offload this summer.
Juventus eagerly monitoring Leeds’ negotiations with Torino over Lucas Perri
Despite Darlow’s departure, it does not seem as though Lucas Perri will get the opportunity to reclaim his spot in Daniel Farke’s starting XI.
Perri, 28, is said to be the subject of interest from Torino. Juventus are said to be interested in any potential deal.
According to reports from TuttoJuve, Juventus are following the Perri negotiations with interest, as they believe that if the Brazilian joins Torino, then that could open the door for them to potentially sell Michele Di Gregorio to Leeds.
Di Gregorio started 30 league games for Juventus last season. But following a disappointing campaign, he is unlikely to be their starting ‘keeper next season.
Juventus look as though they are desperate to offload the Italian this summer. This is why I’ll take any links with Di Gregorio with a pinch of salt.
Di Gregorio’s agent has also been involved in a public spat with Juventus after the goalkeeper was blamed for their failures last season, so to see him linked with a move away by Italian outlets is no surprise.
Leeds should avoid any deal for Michele Di Gregorio
The last thing United can afford to do this summer when signing a new shot-stopper is to take a gamble on a player.
At 28, does Di Gregorio have plenty of Serie A experience? Absolutely.
But we certainly shouldn’t be buying a goalie who is coming off a poor season with Juventus.
We desperately need stability between the sticks, and I doubt Di Gregorio is the man to provide that.
The 49ers’ recruitment at Leeds is shrewd for the most part. So, why on earth would they be looking to sign an out-of-form goalkeeper, whose club is desperately trying to get rid of him? It doesn’t make any sense.
Hopefully, these reports linking Leeds to Di Gregorio stay in Italy.
It’s fair to say Leeds messed up when they signed Perri last summer. They got away with it as Darlow came into the team and impressed, but they cannot afford to make that same mistake again when signing a goalkeeper.
