Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester United for highly-rated academy winger Tynan Thompson.
Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Premier League rivals Manchester United for the permanent transfer of exciting academy prospect Tynan Thompson, as per Tottenham Hotspur Academy on X. The announcement marks a significant reinforcement for the Red Devils’ youth-first recruitment blueprint under the INEOS sporting structure.
The 18-year-old English left-winger has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Old Trafford after the two top-flight clubs successfully wrapped up swift club-to-club negotiations. The deal is understood to be worth a guaranteed upfront fee of £4 million, which could eventually double to £8 million if various first-team performance milestones and senior add-ons are fully met in the coming seasons. Additionally, Tottenham have cleverly insulated themselves against future success by securing a 15% sell-on clause.
Thompson originally arrived at the North London academy at the age of 12 and quickly developed into one of the most prolific offensive outputs within the youth ranks. His standout breakthrough campaign last year saw him notch 13 goals and supply six assists across both Under-18 and Under-21 levels, highlighted by a spectacular haul of seven goals in just seven UEFA Youth League appearances.
First-Team Development Pathway at Old Trafford
The explosive attacker had already penned professional terms in North London and earned regular opportunities to train alongside the senior squad. His impressive physical stature and clinical nature inside the final third even saw him named as an unused substitute on the first-team bench during two distinct Champions League matchdays last season.
Despite his immense promise, personal factors influenced the young forward’s decision to leave the capital, with his family eagerly seeking a geographic relocation out of London. Recognizing the unique opportunity, Manchester United fended off aggressive transfer interest from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg to finalize the signature rapidly before the pre-season window progresses.
Thompson will join up directly with Michael Carrick’s squad, where senior management has already mapped out a clear developmental pathway to help the England Under-18 international integrate into senior training. With the formal agreement signed and public, the versatile winger faces an exciting new chapter to unlock his full potential at Old Trafford.
