SAM SMITH described it as a "special moment" scoring against former club Manchester United.
The striker started his career at Old Trafford before signing his first professional contract with Reading in 2016.
After a spell at Cambridge United, Smith returned to the Royals before joining Wrexham in the 2025 winter transfer window.
Named in the first-half side for Saturday's friendly with United at Helsinki's iconic Olympic Stadium, Smith's 39th minute goal turned out to be the winner.
"It was a special moment," he told the official club website.
"I know all my family will be at home watching so I enjoyed it."
Phil Parkinson made 10 changes at the break, with only Aaron James staying on for the second half which United had the better of but struggled to create chances, and Smith felt it was a job well done in an opening period dominated by Wrexham.
"Another 45 minutes (for everyone), I think we played really well. We stuck to the game-plan," he said.
"We worked on things we've been focussing on for the start of the season so a good performance.
"That's all we could do, my team try and win the first half and get the minutes in the legs, and we did that.
"I think it was a really good performance."
Wrexham, who opened their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Wisła Kraków in Poland, now return to America for the third time, and first since 2024, to play friendlies against Liverpool, Leeds United and Sunderland.
Smith is looking forward to the tour, with the first match in Florida on Saturday when Leeds are the opponents at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
"I think we take it game-by-game, continue to try and get fit and work on what we're planning for the start of the season," added Smith.
"Three massive games in America and we're all looking forward to it.
"Three massive clubs and three difficult games.
"They are the games you want to play and hopefully we can go into it trying to win."
