Man Utd want one more midfielder from the summer transfer window. As per recent news, they are seriously considering Norwegian player Sander Berge for a major deal ahead of the upcoming season.
Berge to join Man Utd for next season?
The Red Devils are buying one midfielder after the other. They’ve already signed players like Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. As reported by TEAMtalk, United aim to bring Berge to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are working on a deal of £40 million for the 28-year-old defensive midfielder. Everton and Hull have also shown their interest in the Norwegian player.
Berge currently plays for Fulham. He joined the club in 2024. Before that, he played for Burnley between 2023 and 2024. He previously played for Sheffield United from 2020 to 2023.

Will Berge be a good fit for Man Utd
Man Utd need a good defensive midfielder in the team for the 2026-27 season. The management wants to fill in the void left by former player Casemiro. The Brazilian defensive midfielder had joined the team in August 2022, after an agreement between Real Madrid and the Old Trafford management. However, after the 2025-26 Premier League, he decided to leave the team. He is currently aiming to join the Major League Soccer team Inter Miami.
As such, Berge is one of the best options for the Red Devils next season. While they’re working on a deal for French player Manu Kone, Berge seems to more affordable for them. Apart from that, the Norwegian is well known for high passing accuracy. If he agrees to join Man Utd by next year, the team can think seriously about regaining the League title. Even Belgian player Nicolas Raskin is on the team’s wishlist, although he is not a defensive midfielder like Berge.
While Fulham couldn’t win big in the 2025-26 season, Berge’s performance didn’t go unnoticed. He also proved his mettle at the World Cup a few weeks ago. That’s why Man Utd want to secure his transfer as soon as possible. They want a stronger midfield lineup ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Future gameplan for Sander Berge
Berge is currently resting for some time before preparing for the next **football**season. He recently impressed everyone with his performance at the FIFA World Cup. Norway made it to the quarter-finals for the first time. However, England beat them 2-1. The Three Lions eventually finished in third place. They defeated France 6-4 to secure their first podium finish after 60 years.
Except for a brief period of illness due to a virus in May, Berge was mostly injury free throughout the 2025-26 season. However, if he wants to make it big in European football, he should be consistent in his performance, as well as his fitness.
Man Utd improved a lot on their previous performance in the 2025-26 season. However for team manager Michael Carrick, merely improving is not enough. He wants a better and stronger side for the next season. Carrick wants the Red Devils to regain their position as the European powerhouse. That is why players like Berge are needed for the upcoming season. He knows that such an opportunity won’t come again. It remains to be seen which club does Berge choose for his next season.
