Manchester United have joined the race for Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumí, becoming the latest club to show an interest in him.
Corriere di Bologna report that Manchester United have ‘made a move’ for the 28-year-old, who has long been linked with a move away from the Italian club.
Manchester United join list of suitors
The newspaper explains that Bologna ‘first executive’, CEO Claudio Fenucci’, recently arrived at their pre-season training camp in South Tyrol.
He faces a ‘host of issues’ to resolve, from the early days of Domenico Tedesco’s reign to the transfer market. The latter is already ‘buzzing’ as far as the club is concerned.
Alongside interest from Aston Villa in Jonathan Rowe, Manchester United have ‘also made a move’ for Jhon Lucumí. According to the newspaper, they’ve become ‘the latest club to join the long list of suitors’.
Corriere di Bologna make no explanation of the move from United, just that it has happened. Lucumí has been heavily linked with a move away from the Italian side, particularly as he is now in the final year of his contract with them.
Manchester United in 2024
Reports are yet to put Manchester United among the suitors. But the defender is an old acquaintance.
Sport Witness covered reports back in 2024 explaining that he was on the scouting list at Old Trafford. Now Corriere di Bologna insist they’re back in the picture. Transfermarkt currently rate him at €22m.
Fenucci has offered encouragement to Michael Carrick’s side too. He recently commented on Jhon Lucumi’s future, insisting that they’re happy to sell for the right price.
“A year ago, we couldn’t sell him at the end of the transfer window,” he said.
“But we promised him that this year, given a suitable offer, we’d make it happen. The transfer window hasn’t really taken off yet, and if it didn’t for Lucumi either, we’d be happy to keep him…”
