Ben Nelson has now attracted the attention of Man Utd. In a surprise twist, the Red Devils have shown their interest in the Leicester City defender.
Nelson to leave Leicester for Old Trafford?
The Red Devils are on a shopping spree this summer. They have signed players like Karl Darlow, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for the next season. Now they want a reliable defender. That’s why they’re seeking out the 22-year-old Nelson, as reported by The Sun. Apart from the Red Devils, Chelsea and West Ham United are equally interested in the center-back.
Nelson currently plays for the Leicester City. He joined the club in 2020. In between, he played for clubs like Rochdale, Doncaster Rovers, and Oxford United under different loan spells from 2022 to 2025. Subsequently, he re-joined Leicester City.

How will Nelson be beneficial for Man Utd?
Nelson’s contract with Leicester will expire after June 2027. He needs a club that will provide him with better opportunities. He is capable of playing in both the center-back and the left-back positions. That’s why United wants Nelson to join Old Trafford as soon as possible.
While Nelson played for Leicester City, he didn’t get to play at the Premier League. This is because the Foxes were relegated to the Championship, and subsequently to the League One by the end of the 2025-26 season. Leicester City finished in 23rd place at the 2025-26 Championship. Their best performance came at the FA Cup, where they made it to the fourth round.
Although the Foxes didn’t perform well last year, Nelson tried his best. His individual performance didn’t go unnoticed, and that is why Man Utd want him for the next season. They want to strengthen their defense, and Nelson seems to be the perfect fit.
What’s next for Ben Nelson?
Nelson is currently recovering from a muscle injury. He suffered the injury in April 2026 during a training session. This forced him to sit out for the rest of the **football**season. If he wants to make it big in European football, he needs to avoid such situations next year.
Although Man Utd didn’t win a single title last year, they showed significant improvement with their third place finish at the Premier League. Naturally, team manager Michael Carrick would like to perform better next season. He wants the team to work on every front possible. He has experienced the team’s golden age as a former player, and wants to replicate the same as their head coach.
The Red Devils currently need a stronger defensive lineup. Defensive midfielder Casemiro and left-back Tyrell Malacia left the team after this season. Even Manuel Ugarte [who plays as a defensive midfielder] is likely to leave the team after the 2025-26 season, due to recurring injuries. This leaves a huge gap in the team’s defense. That’s why United are seeking out players like Ben Nelson.
Nelson is currently the talk of the town for many clubs. It won’t be easy for Man Utd to secure him this season. However, if they manage to do it, the sky is the limit for the English defender. He has a golden opportunity to do at Old Trafford what he couldn’t do at Leicester. It remains to be seen if he actually signs up for the deal or not.
