Forget Hall: Man Utd eye move to sign 'one of the best in the Premier League' - report

Manchester United are said to be hoping to fill a position of need with another reliable Premier League star this summer. The Red Devils have kicked off their summer business with the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while they changed their mind over signing Ederson due to medical concerns.

But those signings will only be the beginning of the club's business this summer, with Michael Carrick hoping to up the quality of his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League. Another midfielder will be signed, and Carrick also wants a left-back and possibly another forward. The left-back position is a particular area of concern due to Luke Shaw's age, 31, and his injury history, and there is no senior alternative to the England international. But that issue is expected to be addressed.

Man Utd considering Premier League left-back

Antonee Robinson

United have switched their transfer strategy to largely signing proven Premier League players in the last 18 months, and it has been a much more rewarding strategy to date. Largely relying on signings who haven't required any real time to adjust, United have managed to find consistency in the majority of their squad, and Carrick has also played a part in that.

Given their recent success, finishing in the top three, United are sticking with their current strategy, and The Guardian report they will turn to another proven Premier League commodity to address their left-back issue.

It's claimed Fulham's Antonee Robinson is being shortlisted along with Newcastle United's Lewis Hall, as they look to add a left-back. Robinson is said to carry an asking price of around £35million, which would likely make Robinson a much cheaper target than Hall, but at 26 years of age, he does not have as much room to grow as Hall, who is still only 21 years of age.

Robinson one of the league's best

Speaking in December 2024, then Fulham boss Marco Silva said of Robinson: "He’s been great for us. He’s one of the best left-backs in this league. It’s not just the way he is able to stop players, but the way he is able to help ourselves.

"In open play, last season he was the full-back in this league with [the] most assists and this season [he] is probably one of the full-backs with the most assists. He’s a top player and a great professional. He’s a proper athlete and is improving in some defensive positions we want him to improve. He’s improving season by season, and week by week you can see he is improving, and we are really proud to have him with us."

It's that kind of Premier League experience United are hoping to recruit again this summer.
