Man Utd 'frontrunners' to sign £80m midfielder after Tielemans

Manchester United are poised to pursue a third midfielder during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already bolstered their midfield department with the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but the club are aiming for another top-class addition.

United would ideally prefer a more defensive-minded midfielder, and they have been handed a potential boost with Bournemouth star Alex Scott turning down a new contract.

Sky Sports claim that the English ace has snubbed a new Cherries deal beyond June 2028.

United are one of the ‘frontrunners to sign’ him alongside Arsenal and Chelsea, but Bournemouth still expect him to stay. They share the same stance on Junior Kroupi and Rayan.

Man Utd unlikely to enter race for Scott

The Red Devils have already spent £85 million to land Santos and Tielemans. Scott has been frequently linked, but the Cherries continue to insist that he won’t be going anywhere this summer.

Even if the club change their stance, the South Coast outfit could demand at least £80m for the 22-year-old, which could be out of United’s reach with plans to bolster other positions too.

Aside from a third midfielder, United have their sights on landing a new backup striker, a left winger and another left-back. It could partly depend on Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee being sold.

Still, the club may not make a huge outlay on a third midfielder, given they already have Santos and Tielemans, who could be competing for one midfield spot to partner Kobbie Mainoo next term.

If United were to pursue a high-profile midfield solution, they could step up their pursuit of Roma’s Manu Kone. Initial discussions have taken place for the Frenchman, who could cost around £51m.
