Manchester United have made a tentative enquiry for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 5).
The Portugal international has been a key player for the Rossoneri since 2019, but he has decided to pursue a new challenge in another league.
Leao has entered the last two years of his contract, and Corriere dello Sport claim that he is hoping to play for a top Premier League or La Liga club.
However, there are no concrete offers on the table thus far. United have made a ‘tentative enquiry’ for the 27-year-old, but there has been ‘nothing else’.
As things stand, Turkish champions Galatasaray are ‘pushing hard’ to sign the winger. Milan want at least £43 million to part ways with the Portuguese.
United unlikely to pursue deal for Leao
The Red Devils were credited with an interest in West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville recently, but he is on his way to Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League side have agreed to pay £55m upfront with another £5m in add-ons. United never made a formal approach for the Dutchman.
It is quite clear that the club won’t be pursuing a left-sided winger unless Marcus Rashford heads for the exit door during the ongoing transfer window.
The England international had a fine 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona with 28 goal contributions, but they declined to sign him for around £26m.
There was a £40m release clause available for other teams except Manchester City and Liverpool, but that expired on July 15 with no suitable proposals.
Hence, interested clubs have to negotiate with United hereafter.
United manager Michael Carrick is prepared to reintegrate Rashford into the squad, and he is ‘expected’ to begin the new season with the Red Devils.
Keeping that in mind, it is unsurprising that the club’s hierarchy have not explored a deal for Leao despite his evident desire to join a top English outfit.
Furthermore, Leao is no longer regarded with the same hype as in 2023 or 2024. His lack of defensive output is an obvious demerit in his long career.
Galatasaray look the frontrunners to sign him if he opts to leave San Siro after seven seasons.
