It is the future mixed with the present, and the arrivals of Patrick Dorgu and Senne Lammens, alongside other first-team additions, are proof of that. They show there is also a pathway for these talents to make the step up and contribute to the first team if they earn the opportunity - Thompson is expected to follow that route.
In the £25 million range, Jorthy Mokio could potentially present INEOS United with a good market opportunity. According to Transfermarkt, which of course is just a guide, his value is £6.8 million. Given the boom of the transfer market this summer, it would not be surprising if, in reality, his value is closer to that £25 million mark.
Mokio is 18 and has huge upside in terms of his potential. He is a versatile, athletic footballer who can play at centre-back and defensive midfield. We know United are looking to add a third midfielder anyway, but they may be forced to add a centre-back given the injury to Lisandro Martínez that was sustained during the World Cup final.
Chema Andrés is exactly the type of player Manchester United should be targeting under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recruitment model. The 21-year-old is a technically gifted hybrid No.6 and No.8, with an imposing frame, excellent spatial awareness and the ability to dictate play under pressure. His profile is similar to Rodri’s, with the intelligence to control games from deep. Real Madrid’s decision to include both a buy-back clause and a 50% sell-on clause when they sold him highlights how highly they rate his potential.
Although Transfermarkt values him at around £17 million, any deal would likely cost closer to £50m. Stuttgart are under little pressure to sell, but Chema has the physical, technical and tactical qualities to explode into one of Europe’s top midfielders over the next few seasons, making him a worthwhile investment.
Lewis Hall would be an ideal option in the £75m bracket because he has all the attributes of a modern full-back. Comfortable in possession, technically secure and effective at both ends of the pitch, the 21-year-old England international would give Manchester United a long-term solution at left-back. While Luke Shaw stayed fit for much of last season, Hall’s age profile and potential make him the standout candidate.
Newcastle are unlikely to entertain offers unless they receive a premium, but the club’s current uncertainty could eventually open the door. Hall has previously been linked with United and would fit INEOS’ preference for signing young players with high ceilings who are eager to represent the club. At 21, he has all the tools to develop into one of Europe’s best left-backs.
If Manchester United had more than £100m to spend on one player, Jude Bellingham would be the standout choice. The England international has already established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders, combining elite technical ability with leadership, athleticism and a relentless desire to win. Of course, United were heavily linked with Bellingham before his move to Borussia Dortmund, making this one of the club’s biggest transfer ‘what ifs’ in recent years.
Any deal would be incredibly difficult given his importance to Real Madrid, but this is a dream scenario. At 23, Bellingham has every attribute needed to dominate a midfield for the next decade and would immediately elevate United into a far more complete side.
