Manchester United‘s rumoured interest in San Lorenzo goalkeeper Orlando Gill has been a topic since he starred for Paraguay at the World Cup.
Last week, the 26-year-old talked about keeping his feet on the ground as offers arrive.
Two days ago, Sport Witness relayed news of Manchester United making initial contact to sign him.
He has a €20m release clause in a contract that expires in December 2027, while the Argentine club are ready to sell for €10m this summer.
Suprise as Manchester United make advances
DSports Radio took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update on Manchester United from journalist Gonzalo Orellano.
He has come up a surprise claim of the Red Devils making an offer for the 26-year-old.
Orellano reports Orlando Gill’s agent claims to be handling a $8-10m [€7-€8.7m] bid from Michael Carrick’s side. This is still short of the Argentine club’s demand of €10m.
As of now, San Lorenzo haven’t received any formal proposal and are waiting for it before taking further steps.
This means the stopper’s representative hasn’t yet transferred the Premier League side’s offer to the South American club. There won’t be any further developments until then.
It’s unclear how this case would play out, but what is certain now is that the Paraguay international will ‘definitively leave’ in this window.
Our take: Gill would be No.2
Senne Lammens has cemented his place, after arriving at Old Trafford last summer, and will be the No.1 next season.
Manchester United have also extended Tom Heaton’s contract until 2027 and have signed Karl Darlow for free this summer.
Altay Bayındır, who is still at the club, could leave in the coming weeks. Should he leave, Michael Carrick will then have three recognised goalkeepers at his disposal.
Therefore, it wouldn’t make sense for the Red Devils to bring in Orlando Gill or another goalkeeper. That is, unless they value Gill as a long term number two and competition for Lammens.
