Crystal Palace striker Jean-Phillippe Mateta could find himself in a battle with Randal Kolo Muani again this summer, as Juventus eye up a move for the French forward.
Tuttosport report that there is a ‘Plan B’ in place at Juventus this summer and it revolves around the Crystal Palace star.
Juventus’ Plan B
The newspaper explains that Juventus are keen to sign Muani but, so far, negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain have been stuck in limbo. The Italian side simply don’t want to match PSG’s financial demands.
So, if that deal doesn’t happen, which is looking likely, they will turn to ‘Plan B’ – Mateta. The Crystal Palace striker has put contract negotiations with the Eagles on hold over the last few weeks.
He is aiming to move to a ‘top club’ this summer. Manchester United enquired in early June but did not take it further than that. This has ‘paved the way’ for Juventus to reignite their interest.
January offer of €33m
They had previously put a deal worth €33m, comprising of a loan and an option to buy, on the table back in January. Negotiations were in full swing. As with AC Milan, though, they came to a halt thanks to a knee injury. Like Milan, Juventus decided against a move at that point.
But Mateta has since recovered, returning strongly at the end of the season to score the winning goal in the Europa Conference League final. He then headed to the World Cup with France, beating Kolo Muani to a place in Didier Deschamps’ squad.
Now attention can go back to the transfer window. Juventus are aware of his return and have sounded out the possibility of a move. They seemingly want a deal for Mateta ready to move if negotiations for Kolo Muani continue to stumble.
With just two years left on his deal at Selhurst Park, there’s the potential for a deal for the 28-year-old that suits all parties and is easier to get over the line than the one with PSG.
