Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has thanked supporters for standing by him after Argentina’s World Cup final defeat. He insisted his full focus is now on returning stronger for the new season at Old Trafford.
The centre-back endured a heartbreaking end to the tournament as Argentina fell short in the World Cup final. Martínez also picked up an injury during the competition.
Despite the disappointment, the 28-year-old has moved quickly to reassure Manchester United fans that his recovery is already underway.
In a video message shared after the tournament, relayed by Argentina’s Cronica, Martínez thanked supporters for their backing throughout the difficult period.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone for the messages and the support during this difficult moment,” he said.
“I can see that many of you are disappointed and I know many of you have been praying for my speedy recovery. That means the world to me.”
Eyes on Manchester United return
While reflecting on Argentina’s defeat, Martínez made it clear that his attention has already shifted towards getting back onto the pitch for Manchester United.
“Losing with Argentina in the World Cup hurt a lot, but these things happen in football,” he explained.
“Injuries are part of the game, and right now I’m focused on getting back to 100%.”
The defender added that every day of his rehabilitation is being spent with one objective in mind.
“I’m working hard every day to come back stronger for the new season with Manchester United.”
The Argentine only recently returned to international football after spending 598 days away from the national team because of successive injuries. He then established himself again in Lionel Scaloni’s starting XI during the World Cup.
Message to Old Trafford supporters
Martínez reserved his warmest words for Manchester United supporters. He highlighted the connection he feels with the club as he begins another recovery process.
“This club and the fans have given me everything,” he said.“I can’t wait to give it back on the pitch. Thank you for the love. See you soon at Old Trafford.”
Despite the disappointment of missing out on World Cup glory, Martínez’s message leaves little doubt over his mindset. The Manchester United defender is determined to recover fully. Also, he wants to return ready to repay the faith shown by the club and its supporters.
