Newcastle United would be an ideal next destination for Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount.
That is the view of the Red Devils' former assistant manager Rene Meulensteen who believes the England international will be reduced to a bit-part role this season.
Mount joined Manchester United in the summer of 2023 but has struggled to really cement himself as a key player at Old Trafford since making the move from Chelsea.
The 27-year-old made 23 Premier League appearances for Michael Carrick's side last season with injury ruling him out of nine matches. Injury concerns have plagued his three years at Old Trafford, despite having a brilliant fitness record previously at Stamford Bridge.

When he has played, though, he has shown what he can offer but Meulensteen believes Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha will be preferred in attacking midfield roles at Man United this season and believes a move to Newcastle could be a good solution for him.
"Mason Mount to Newcastle could be a good move because If Mount stays, he would only be a bit-part player," Meulensteen told Andy's Bet Club.
"Even if he stays at Manchester United and stays fit, it is hard to see Michael Carrick not starting Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo. You need a squad for many games, so he would get picked at some point.
"Mason Mount is at a point in his career where he wants to play as much as possible. If he leaves, United would need to find backup for the left side."

Newcastle are known to be in the market to sign a new midfielder this summer having lost out to Aston Villa in the race to sign Switzerland international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg.
Mount has two years remaining on his contract in Manchester, with the option of a further year, but given he is 27 and his wage demands would likely prove expensive, a move to Newcastle would seem unlikely looking at the profile of players the club has targeted this summer.
The Magpies have been linked with Brazil international midfielder Danilo Santos of Botafogo, as well as Tottenham Hotspur's Lucas Bergvall.
Joe Willock could leave Newcastle this summer, with Turkish side Besiktas interested in his services. Multiple midfielders may need to still be recruited, too, should Bruno Guimaraes also leave the club amid interest from Arsenal.
Midfielder Sean Steur was signed from Ajax earlier this month with the Dutch teenager replacing the gap left in the squad by the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.
