Tottenham
Tottenham’s interest in Lucas Ronier has now been backed up in Brazil.
ESPN Brazil journalist André Hernan just confirmed Spurs’ name among the clubs following the Coritiba winger.
Sport Witness recently revealed that Tottenham and Fulham are monitoring the 21-year-old. Hernan has now added Spurs to a list which also includes clubs from Italy. Meanwhile, he is revealing fresh details about how Coritiba intend to handle the player’s future.
Coritiba have Matheus Cunha plan in mind
According to Hernan, Coritiba would like Ronier’s career to follow a similar path. This is the path taken by Matheus Cunha.
The Brazil international left Coritiba early in his career. He established himself in Germany and eventually made the move to the Premier League.
The comparison is less about expecting identical careers and more about the development pathway the Brazilian club would like to create.
Rather than accepting the first sizeable offer that arrives, Coritiba want Ronier to take the next step into European football at the right moment.
Club in no rush to sell
Hernan also explains that Coritiba are prepared to play hardball during this window.
Despite growing interest, the club are not actively looking to sell Ronier. They believe no proposal has yet reached a level capable of convincing the board. At the same time, they accept the current window could bring serious offers.
“Coritiba are playing hardball over Lucas Ronier because they know they have a gem on their hands”, he said.
“The club have no great desire to sell him and, so far, no offer has really caught the attention of the board in this new phase the club are going through.”
“That said, they do believe something could arrive during the current transfer window. The market is opening up for this very talented player.”
The journalist adds that Palmeiras discussed the winger internally during the January transfer window, while clubs in Italy are also keeping tabs on his situation.
Those details further reinforce the feeling that competition is building around one of Coritiba’s biggest talents, even if Tottenham’s interest remains at the monitoring stage for now.
