Juventus have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Jhon Lucumi after Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci confirmed that the club has an agreement in place allowing the defender to leave during the current transfer window.
Lucumi has emerged as one of the players Juventus are keen to add to their squad this summer, and the defender is reportedly open to making the move to Turin. The Bianconeri are expected to strengthen their defensive options, particularly amid reports that Gleison Bremer could complete a transfer to Galatasaray.
Juventus encouraged in pursuit
Lucumi has established himself as one of the standout defenders in Serie A over the past few seasons, making him an attractive target for Juventus. With his current contract entering its final season, the Colombian has no intention of signing an extension, meaning Bologna are expected to sanction a sale this summer if they are to receive a transfer fee for his departure.
Juventus are not the only club interested in securing his signature, with several leading Serie A sides also monitoring his situation. However, the Bianconeri will be hoping to move quickly in order to gain an advantage in the race. Should they submit a suitable offer in the coming weeks, they could be well placed to complete the transfer.
Bologna honour previous agreement
According to Sport Mediaset, Fenucci confirmed that Bologna intend to honour the commitment they made to the player regarding his future. He said, “Lucumí can leave, it’s a promise we made a year ago. Last summer, the player received a major offer that could change the course of his career, an offer we asked him to forgo to help us another year.”
He continued, “We promised him that if the right offer came in these months, we would let him go. Let’s see if a suitable offer arrives. If not, we will be happy to consider it one of ours.”
Those comments suggest Bologna are prepared to approve Lucumi’s departure, provided an acceptable offer is received, leaving Juventus with a clear opportunity to pursue one of their primary defensive targets before the transfer window closes.
