Manchester United’s recruitment drive is well underway as the club continue to reshape their squad. Michael Carrick has already welcomed four new signings to Old Trafford as his side prepare to compete on multiple fronts next season.

United’s top priority has been to refresh their midfield options this summer. Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans have been brought in to help revamp the team in the middle of the pitch.

However, the club continue to be linked with other midfield targets, including France international Manu Kone. Following his impressive displays during the World Cup, United have held talks with Roma over a move for the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also claimed to hold an interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, who recently rejected a new deal with the Cherries. Here is a closer look at some of the biggest transfer stories surrounding the club.

Manu Kone transfer twist

United reportedly face fresh competition in their pursuit of Roma’s Manu Kone. Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli are said to be targeting the midfielder, which could derail United’s transfer plans.

Sky Sports Switzerland reports that Al-Ahli have contacted Roma to learn Kone’s price tag. The club are said to have “concrete interest” in Kone, whose performances at the World Cup reportedly convinced Al-Ahli to make their move.

The report mentions that United are “monitoring” the Roma star, while Atletico Madrid have also scouted him in the past. While Kone is claimed to favour a Premier League move over La Liga, he is “not ruling out” a switch to Saudi Arabia.

The news comes shortly after fellow Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal agreed a deal for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville. The Netherlands international was a player that United had monitored and the club could be wary of a repeat situation following Al-Ahli’s reported interest in Kone.

United in ‘pole position’ for midfielder

United are among the leading contenders to sign Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. The 22-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs but Arsenal represent United’s main rivals for his signature.

Scott is claimed to favour a move to Arsenal but has concerns over his chances of earning regular minutes, which could benefit United. He would become the club’s third midfield signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Santos and Tielemans.
