Juventus have an agreement in place with Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez but are yet to get closer to a deal with the Villans.
Journalist Alessio Lento reports that there is still a gap between Aston Villa and Juventus in terms of the 33-year-old’s transfer fee that ‘needs to be bridged’.
According to his information, Juventus have ‘locked in’ their agreement with the Argentina star already. There is also no concerns about him taking up a non-EU spot in the squad, as he holds a Spanish passport. That means there are no issues player side.
The problem remains finding an agreement with Aston Villa. The two sides are still far apart on that front and that ‘still needs to be bridged’. There is no mention of the asking price at this moment in time.
Lento, though, insists that there is currently no indication that the deal for the goalkeeper will be abandoned. He does, however, concede that the distance between Aston Villa and Juventus ‘remains significant’.
€12m valuation
Transfermarkt currently rate the goalkeeper at €12m. But that is unlikely to be a fee that Aston Villa would accept for their number one. For a start, he’s locked into a deal until 2029, so there’s no reason to sell for a low price.
They will particularly be resistant to losing another key player after the departures of Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers. Losing their star goalkeeper would be another hammer blow in an already difficult summer.
But they could face pressure from Emiliano Martinez himself. Sport Witness covered a report earlier this week explaining that the Argentine goalkeeper may focus solely on forcing an exit from Aston Villa.
He appears determined for a fresh start following his disappointment in the World Cup final. And with an agreement in place already with Juventus, he can focus solely on an agreement with Unai Emery’s side.
It’s the same for the Italians, who appear reluctant to give up their efforts just yet.
