The Tottenham full-back has been in demand following his World Cup displays.
Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the most active Premier League sides in the transfer market and have shown no signs of slowing down.
Spurs’ incomings have been there for everyone to see, but in terms of outgoings, Luka Vuskovic has fetched the club a premium following his move to Brighton. Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario are also expected to leave, as Roberto De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad.
Djed Spence has been linked with an exit as well. The full-back has become a hot commodity in the transfer market following his impressive showings at the recently concluded World Cup in North America. He enhanced his reputation with a handful of fantastic displays for England under Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup, which has led to interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Inter Milan and Liverpool are showing an interest in the England international. And now, another European heavyweight has entered the race to sign him.
Manchester United express interest in Djed Spence
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United are weighing up a move for Djed Spence. The Tottenham full-back has emerged on the Red Devils’ radar over the last few weeks after impressing at the World Cup with England.
Despite impressing at the world’s biggest stage, the 25-year-old is not guaranteed of a place in Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham XI. This has opened the door to a potential move away from N17 before September’s transfer deadline. Spence is not short of options, and Manchester United are the latest entrant in the race to sign him.
A move to Man United would come as a lift to Michael Carrick, as Spence’s versatility would give the head coach potential options on both sides of the pitch. Carrick is perhaps scouring the market for Luke Shaw’s cover, and Spence fits the bill perfectly.
Difficult for Tottenham to keep Spence
Spence must be keen to impress De Zerbi this summer, but remains open to a move away from Tottenham if he cannot be guaranteed regular game time next season. The arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool to operate as Destiny Udogie’s understudy means Spence is expected to provide backup to 2026 World Cup winner Pedro Porro.
At 25 and with decent top-flight experience under his belt now, the England international isn’t expected to be satisfied with a squad rotational option under De Zerbi. Following his World Cup displays, it is easy to see why the former Nottingham Forest man has become such a coveted commodity. Unfortunately, this has made it difficult for Tottenham to keep him beyond the transfer window.
