Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remains on Juventus’ shortlist but is only a back up option at this moment in time.
Calciomercato report that the Italian side are shopping around the market as negotiations for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez continue to struggle.
Tottenham signing easier
The website reports that alternatives are now being explored and the Tottenham goalkeeper is one of them on the table. He is set to leave Tottenham this summer after being excluded from their preseason tour.
According to CM’s information, the former Empoli player would like to return to Serie A. Reaching an agreement with him ‘wouldn’t be an issue’.
Negotiations with Tottenham ‘should also be simpler’ too. Juventus are not pushing that forward for now, as Vicario is simply considered an alternative.
Precautionary steps towards deal
Gazzetta dello Sport say much the same. The newspaper reports that Martinez remains the top choice, but he is proving difficult to get out of Aston Villa.
But Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is ‘steadily climbing the list of candidates’ at the Italian club. According to the newspaper, he is ‘quietly edging closer to Juventus’.
They state that the harder the road towards Martinez becomes, the clearer the path looks for Vicario. That’s because CEO Giovanni Carnevali has a direct line to Roberto de Zerbi. The pair previously worked together at Sassuolo.
The Italian giants have taken ‘precautionary steps’ towards a deal. Tottenham are even open to a loan with an option to buy. They are happy to see the 29-year-old depart this summer, with Vicario currently only third-choice option at the club.
Transfer to Juventus desired
Guglielmo Vicario would be delighted to restart his career at Juventus. The belief is that he could fly to Turin at any moment.
For now, though, the deal is being blocked by Luciano Spalletti, who wants to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma instead. He has a soft spot for the Japanese international, leaving Vicario waiting, despite being the easier signing.
Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, add a short piece of their own information. They report that talks with Vicario have continued. He is the ‘most concrete alternative’ at this moment in time.
The goalkeeper wants to return to Italy and is actively pushing for the move. He also has Napoli considering a transfer this summer.
Either way, all three present the Tottenham man as the easy option. Whether Juventus try to actually use that option, remains to be seen. And given that all the Italian sources have these claims today, it’s likely coming from the player’s camp.
