Aston Villa's former Europa League winner Youri Tielemans will have to wait a little longer for his Manchester United debut following his £35m switch to Old Trafford.

United are in action in a friendly against Rosenborg, but Tielemans will not be available for selection because he is currently enjoying an extended post-World Cup vacation.

The Belgium midfielder was given extra time off to recover after featuring heavily for his national team during the 2026 tournament.

The move happened as a result of a release clause in the 29-year-old's contract, which led to a deal that Villa weren't expecting, or particularly pleased about.

It's been a turbulent period for Villa with the Tielemans exit, Lucas Digne set to join Paris Saint-Germain, and Morgan Rogers completing a British record £117 million transfer to Chelsea.

Joao Gomes came in for the same fee as Tielemans, and Alejandro Garnacho became the third arrival after joining on loan from Chelsea, with a conditional obligation to buy in a deal worth around £43 million.

Tielemans was a popular figure at Villa Park since joining from Leicester City on a free transfer, and scored a stunning goal in the Europa League final against Freiburg. He made a total of 134 appearances for Aston Villa in all competitions, scoring ten goals.

Tielemans, took to Instagram to bid farewell to the club and send his best wishes.

“There are moments in football that are harder than any match you will ever play. Saying goodbye is one of them,” he said.

“From the first day that I arrived at Aston Villa, I felt welcomed. Wearing the Villa shirt has been a privilege. Together we shared unforgettable moments. I want to thank all of you.

“All the people that worked tirelessly to make Aston Villa such a special club. Most of all, thank you to the supporters.

“You never asked for perfection, only commitment, honesty and heart. I hope I gave you exactly that every time that I wore the Villa badge.

“The club will always have a special place in my heart. A part of my heart will always belong at Villa Park. And for one last time, Up the Villa.”
