Man Utd are interested in signing Bournemouth midfielder, but Ineos must avoid £35m gamble

Manchester United are actively looking to sign a third midfielder this summer.

The Red Devils have already strengthened the engine room by completing the signings of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Their midfield overhaul is still unfinished and they are actively exploring another addition.

According to The Daily Mail, Man United have interest in signing Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams and a deal could be done at £35 million.

The USA international still has two years remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium.

His Bournemouth teammate Alex Scott is also admired at Old Trafford, although reports suggest the young midfielder currently favours a move to Chelsea.

United should avoid signing Tyler Adams

Adams could have been a good addition to United but only as a squad player.

Santos and Tielemans are quality signings but the Red Devils must aim to recruit a marquee midfielder.

The 27-year-old managed just 21 Premier League appearances last season after another campaign disrupted by knee and hamstring injuries.

He also missed more than 80 days during the 2024-25 season because of a troublesome back injury.

Adams made nearly 12 defensive contributions per game last campaign and registered an 87% passing accuracy.

He only created seven chances in the league and won 51% of his duels.

Those statistics hardly reflect the profile of an elite midfielder capable of elevating United into genuine title contenders.

Rather than settling for a safe option, INEOS would be wiser to pursue a midfielder with a significantly higher ceiling.
