Manchester United have an interest in signing Botafogo midfielder Danilo, who previously played for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to bolster their midfield, but have not ruled out landing another midfielder.
The focus could be on a cost-effective solution, and BBC Sport report that the club have expressed their interest in signing Danilo from Botafogo.
Botafogo have already received offers of £25 million for Danilo from Palmeiras and Zenit St Petersburg.
Palmeiras are pushing the hardest to sign him, but Botafogo prefer a foreign sale.
It appears Zenit have not agreed terms with Danilo yet, which leaves the door open for United to pursue a deal for the 25-year-old during the transfer window.
Danilo speculation could be agent-driven
Danilo was linked with Arsenal and Liverpool during his time at Palmeiras before he eventually made the switch to Forest in January 2023.
The midfielder registered only 62 appearances during his two-and-a-half seasons at the Tricky Trees, where he struggled with injuries and consistency.
The 25-year-old returned to Brazil with Botafogo last summer. He had an injury-plagued 2025 campaign, but has fared much better in 2026.
Danilo, who can operate anywhere in midfield, has scored 10 goals and provided three assists this term. He was part of Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Despite this, we don’t see United making an approach for him. The speculation could be agent-driven to trigger interest from elite European clubs.
United’s prime priority should be landing a specialist number six, having already signed two creative midfielders in Santos and Tielemans.
Someone like Fulham’s Sande Berge or Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams would be ideal and may not cost a significant sum in the transfer window.
The pair are at the prime of their careers at 28 and 27 respectively, and they could seamlessly fit in with vast Premier League experience under them.
