Manchester United have confirmed the departure of one of their academy stars.
Man United have officially announced that Sekou Kone will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Lausanne-Sport.
Kone spent the second half of the previous campaign with the Swiss Super League club.
His opportunities were limited to just five appearances, but the young midfielder will now be hoping for a far bigger role in the new campaign.
United signed Kone from the Malian side Guidars FC in the summer of 2024.
Expectations were enormous when the teenage sensation arrived at Old Trafford, but adapting to English football has proved far more challenging than anticipated.
A series of untimely injuries has repeatedly halted his development just as he appeared ready to build momentum.
Kone is primarily a defensive midfielder and was viewed as a potential long-term successor to Casemiro.
He came close to earning a first-team opportunity last season before a cruel head injury sidelined him for several weeks.
INEOS will now hope this latest loan spell provides the regular minutes needed to reignite Kone’s development.
Even if he ultimately falls short of breaking into United’s first team, consistent performances in Switzerland could significantly increase his market value ahead of next summer.
INEOS are conducting an overhaul of the Man United midfield. They have already secured the signatures of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
United are expected to sign another midfielder, with Alex Scott, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba, Tyler Adams and Manu Kone on their transfer shortlist.
