Mason Mount admitted he "loved" wearing the Manchester United captain's armband during a comfortable win against Rosenborg.
The Reds won 5-0 in Trondheim on Friday, taking a step in the right direction after losing their opening pre-season game.
In the absence of Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire wore the captain's armband again, but he was substituted at half-time, which saw Mount given the armband before further changes were made on the hour mark.
Mount was one of the standout performers from the win against Rosenborg. He spoke to reporters before leaving the Lerkendal Stadion and was asked about wearing the United armband.
When asked if he felt he was now a leader in the dressing room, Mount responded: "Yeah, I think I'm definitely one. I mean, you have different types of leaders. You have ones that are very vocal. I want to always see myself as one that leads by example and never stops working on the pitch.
"I've been captain previously, years ago, so I love the role. Especially with a lot of younger players on the pitch, being able to speak to them and make them feel comfortable in the game and even off the pitch as well. It's a role that I really like, and I loved having it in the second half."
Ruben Amorim praised Mount's leadership during his tenure, while Michael Carrick has admitted he is a "big fan" of the midfielder.
The 27-year-old believes he's in top condition and ready for the new season ahead. "I feel brilliant. I feel really, really good," he said. "Obviously, I finished the season well. At the end of last season, playing a few games and being involved.
"Building on that momentum at the end of last season. It's been a good break, but I was ready and raring to get back and get training again. Getting back into the flow of it. As players, that's what you want.
"Building up over these last couple of weeks, I feel really good. I feel strong and ready to go. I know we've got a few more games left and a few more weeks to really work on things."
Mount continued: "It was another game, obviously in pre-season, for us to work on things. Another week ahead of working on things in training, technically and physically. So, obviously these [Rosenborg] are in-season, they've played quite a few games. They're sharp.
"It was good for us to be out there and to play against that. I think it was a step up from the last game. So we were able to work on things, as I said, and it's good to win as well. That's the most important thing."
