Liverpool may have reached a crucial point in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola.
According to Wilson Cox LFC, the Reds believe Paris Saint-Germain’s stance on selling the French winger could become even firmer if Yan Diomandé completes his expected move to Real Madrid.
PSG were already reluctant to sanction Barcola’s departure.
Losing another highly rated attacking player could make negotiations even more difficult.
That leaves Liverpool with a big decision to make—and perhaps sooner rather than later.
Barcola Remains Liverpool’s Dream Signing
There is no doubt that Bradley Barcola is Liverpool’s preferred target.
The French international possesses many of the qualities Andoni Iraola is believed to want in his wide attackers:
● Electric pace.
● Elite dribbling ability.
● Direct running.
● Creativity in the final third.
● The versatility to play across the front line.
At 23, he is entering the prime years of his career and would represent both an immediate upgrade and a long-term investment.
It is easy to understand why Liverpool have placed him at the top of their wishlist.
PSG’s Position May Be About to Change
The complication is PSG.
According to the report, the French champions had little interest in selling Barcola before the latest developments involving Yan Diomandé.
If Diomandé now moves to Real Madrid, PSG may become even more determined to keep one of their other elite attacking players.
From their perspective, allowing multiple high-profile departures in the same window would weaken the squad significantly.
That could leave Liverpool facing an even tougher negotiating position than before.
Liverpool Won’t Wait Forever
Perhaps the most interesting part of the report is Liverpool’s apparent willingness to move on if necessary.
Rather than allowing themselves to become trapped in another lengthy transfer saga with no guarantee of success, the club are reportedly considering several alternative options.
That reflects Liverpool’s recruitment philosophy in recent years.
Identify a primary target.
But always have a strong backup plan.
The Alternative Shortlist
According to Wilson Cox LFC, Liverpool’s alternative options currently include:
● Yankuba Minteh
● Saïd El Mala
● Maghnes Akliouche
All three offer different qualities, but each fits Liverpool’s preference for young, technically gifted attacking players with significant room for development.
While none may currently carry Barcola’s profile, they could potentially represent better value if PSG refuse to negotiate.
A Defining Moment
This feels like one of those moments that could shape Liverpool’s entire transfer window.
Do they continue pursuing the player they truly want, even if the deal becomes increasingly difficult?
Or do they move decisively for one of their alternatives before competition intensifies elsewhere?
Neither option is without risk.
My View
Personally, I would still push for Bradley Barcola.
Elite players rarely become available, and if Liverpool genuinely believe he is the perfect fit for Iraola’s football, they should exhaust every realistic possibility before walking away.
However, there also comes a point where patience becomes counterproductive.
If PSG make it absolutely clear that Barcola is not leaving, Liverpool would be wise to pivot quickly.
The last thing they need is to spend the entire summer chasing a transfer that never materialises.
Whatever happens, it is encouraging to know Liverpool already appear to have contingency plans in place.
That flexibility may prove crucial before the transfer window closes.
